Why Shame Has No Place Here

There’s something deeply personal behind Coaching with Grace that I would like to share.

In 2023, I lost my best friend — someone I had known and loved since middle school. To everyone around her she was smart, smiling, and capable.

What many people didn’t see, including myself, was the weight she was carrying.

She was struggling financially and felt overwhelming shame about it.

And like so many smart, capable people, she believed she had to handle it alone. She hid it from her friends, her family, and even her spouse. She was borrowing money, moving funds around, trying to fix it herself. She tried to keep everything looking ‘normal’ right up to the point that the shame became unbearable. Ultimately, that shame took her.

Her loss changed me.

It deepened my understanding of how isolating financial shame can be — and how good we’ve become at hiding money struggles, even from the people closest to us.

Most financial problems are solvable.

I think that’s worth repeating: Most financial problems are solvable.

Debt can be structured.
Credit can be rebuilt.
Spending can be stabilized.

But shame convinces us to stay silent.

And silence makes everything heavier.

Coaching with Grace exists because I want people to feel safe telling the truth about their finances.

You don’t need to pretend here.
You don’t need to clean up the numbers before asking for help.
You don’t need to carry it alone.

Shame has no place in this space.

Only clarity, structure, and steady progress.
